In order to achieve this goal, equitable and efficient management of the world’s resources is critical. A significant portion of the global population does not consume enough to meet their basic needs. However, food waste is also considerable — nearly a third of all food produced is thrown away. Many individuals have unsustainable lifestyles: the global material footprint was 85.9 billion tons in 2017.
